…Tara always has ideas…ideas, ideas, ideas…and because she always says, “OK!” to my ideas, I usually go along with her ideas…like the time she said, “After we get done bartending on Friday night, let’s stay up ALL night long, drink some wine and go Christmas shopping at 4 am when the stores open!”…if you know me, this is NOT my idea of fun! Staying up ALL night…??? Not this girl!…but she redeemed any bad ideas she may have had with her desire to go to Siem Reap…I asked my friend if she knew a travel agent and within minutes, we were told we could leave at 7:15 am for Siem Reap and return back to Phnom Penh at 5:25 pm…for $174 each. Not exactly my comfort zone…flying without my kids…for a day…and spending $200…BUT…she DID fly across the world to see me and I wasn’t going to let her to Siem Reap alone!…tickets were delivered to our door on Wednesday and we were up BEFORE the crack of dawn and headed to the airport!
It was THE perfect day! I remember it today and smile! Landing in Siem Reap with nothing but our bags for the day…tennis shoes on ready for hiking around the temples…we had NO idea what we were in for…every view, every temple, every stop was PICTURE perfect…seriously…it was SO much fun to share this together…like our own little Amazing Race! We found a great little tuk tuk driver, negotiated a rate for the day and at 8:04 am…here we were!
Between the 2 of us…we took about 500 photos…Tara’s camera ran out of memory…mine ran out of battery…thankful for the camera’s in phones now!
That’s right…while in the toilet, you may not stand on it, wash your feet in it or take a shower in it…true story!
The baby monkeys jumped right into the tuk tuk (this was Tara’s idea to stop!…the babies were cute until the “hungry man” came too…then it was GO GO GO!)
I have no idea how many temples we saw…maybe 8? EVERYWHERE you looked, it was beautiful…there wasn’t a picture you shouldn’t take!
We hiked around those thing like nobody’s business…ate TOO many mangoes…drank a lot of water…got a little sunburned…and LOVED every second of it! We ended up in town at a little Mexican Restaurant, sharing a bucket of cherry margaritas and feeling like the day was a dream…by 4:15, we were at the airport with a cappuccino, ready to fly home! Now ANYONE who comes to visit me has to spend at least a day in Siem Reap!
